I’ve written about many alchemists legends and stories in Prague. The city has many other symbols and images on its beautiful facades which you just cannot ignore while walking around the town. Like the Stone Column House, for example.

Most people take the walk up to the castle from Malostranske Namesti which is by the Charles Bridge. This route is also known as the Coronation Route and starts from the other side of Prague’s Old Town at the Powder Tower.

Walking towards the castle means you get to the shortest haunted street in Prague.

By following the route up to the castle, people sometimes miss the stories and secrets lying in wait in the side streets.

The house at number 24 on Uvoz Street which leads off the coronation route once belonged to a painter called Christian Luna. He was the painter of a miraculous religious painting which helped the Bohemian army at the Battle of White Mountain in 1620.

The mural on the facade of the house is a reproduction of this miraculous engraving. (The painting caused lightning to strike the invaders in their eyes and blind them.) Locals call it the Stone Column house because of a stone column that adorns the facade. An image of the Madonna is on top of the column.

The two corners of the house are also decorated with busts – on the left, the Moon faces West, represented by a woman. Facing East, on the right, a bust of a man represents the Sun. During the day, each bust is either illuminated or plunged into obscurity by the play of light and shade. At no time will both of them be in the sun, or both in the shade.
